Learning Vocabulary In Context – Making-Of Pirates Of The Caribbean

What a word means often depends on the context in which it is used. It is always easier to learn a word in context than to learn it from a list of vocabulary.

This exercise is designed to help you practice context clue skills – identifying word meanings based on surrounding information (i.e. the context).

Task 1

You are going to watch a sequence of scenes from the film. Before watching, read the following questions once (this gives you an idea of what to pay attention to while watching). Then watch the scenes and answer the questions by checking TRUE or FALSE.

Task 3 Main-task

Now watch the video about the manufacturing of the film sets - Marine land and the cave. Try to figure out the meanings of the words/phrases from the context. You can refer back to the video for the visual clues that may help you understand the context.

When learning new words/ phrases, pay attention to the collocation. A collocation is two or more words that often go together. It is often easier to memorize and use language in chunks rather than as single words.
